由於全球車用半導體產業近年發展加速，預計2020年全球車用半導體的產值將達到 487.8 億美元，2016 - 2020 年複合成長率為 5.8%。這股正向成長動力，將使得車用市場成為半導體與微電子等相關廠商，最具吸引力的鎖定目標。而車用半導體市場日益崛起因素，主要來自動駕駛 (Autonomous Driving)、電動節能 (Electrification) 與連網功能(Connectivity) 等核心技術。

近年來自動駕駛系統 (Autonomous Systems) 被廣泛運用於車外環境自主偵測，如光達感測器、雷達感測器、超音波感測器、影像系統與導航 (GPS) 等相關設備。而半導體與微電子也應用在創新自動駕駛技術上，如先進駕駛輔助系統、圖像處理器、應用處理器、感測器、動態隨機存取記憶體 (DRAM) 和快閃記憶體 (NAND Flash) 等。同時，連網汽車與通訊領域的驚人成長也不容小覷。
