Topic:
Novel Frameworks for the Smart Next-Generation Wafer Fab

Abstract:
Like the word “sustainability,” the term “Internet of Things” (IoT) is interpreted multiple ways. This presentation will analyze how IoT smart data based approaches one day may provide significant opportunities to next generation wafer fabs. The presenter will discuss the effects of prototypical IoT and related Machine to Machine (M2M) technologies applied to semiconductor fab operations. We will share our vision of the benefits of IoT strategies as well as the pitfalls of the insufficient implementation of those strategies. Specific semiconductor-related IoT topics to be explored include such major categories as web software, data warehousing, wireless networking for facilities management, and life safety integration. We will describe how a new generation of wireless, self-powered sensors can be applied to dramatically improve the efficiency and sustainability of fab operations.

The organization of our presentation will address a variety of topics in other key operational semiconductor fab categories including Fab Resource Management (Net Zero water/waste/energy, renewables integration, co-generation heat recovery); Building Systems (passive solar, natural ventilation critical systems redundancy, disaster planning); Information Management (building management system, building information model, energy simulation model, zone sensor controls, performance monitoring, predictive maintenance); and Optimized Human Experience  via online dashboards. By assessing the advantages and precautions associated with these new technologies, we will help audience members gain a greater understanding and anticipation of the next-generation fab opportunities and issues.
